O.C.F.D. Free Smoke Detector Program
Do you have working smoke detectors in your home?
Properly installed and maintained smoke detectors provide early warning of a fire. When there is a fire
in your home, you are twice as likely to survive when you have working smoke detectors.

For minimum protection, install smoke detectors on each level of your home including the basement.
For extra protection, you should install detectors both inside and outside sleeping areas.

Tests smoke alarms monthly, whether your detectors are battery operated, or "hard wired".

Replace batteries in your smoke detectors twice per year when you change your clocks in the Spring
and Fall.

Replace your smoke detectors every ten years. It may be helpful to write the purchase date on the
inside of the unit with a marker.

Keep your smoke detectors clean. Dust and debris can interfere with their operation, so vacuum, over
and around your smoke alarm regularly.

If you live in the Oaks Corners Fire Protection district, and you do not have working smoke detectors
on each level of your home, we will send a firefighter to your home and install smoke detectors free of
charge.
