Crew Respond to Mass Casualty Incident On the New
York State Thruway
On September 12, 2014 at 11:15 pm, the Oaks Corners Fire Company & Phelps Ambulance were
dispatched to 328 Eastbound on the New York State Thruway for a reported motor vehicle accident with
people laying in the roadway. Additional callers were reporting a person trapped in the car. Oaks Corners
Deputy Chief Reifsteck requested a heavy rescue truck from Phelps to the scene. Deputy Chief Reifsteck
arrived on scene, assumed command,  and reported that there was no entrapment. Oaks Corners Engine
3211 & Heavy Rescue 3271 responded to the scene. Pumper/Tanker 3231 & Rescue 3261 remained on
stand-by in station for a possible landing zone. Command updated that there were a total of nine patients.
A total of seven ambulances were utilized on scene.
