Ontario County Firefighters Respond to Assist Flooding
Victims In Herkimer & Montgomery Counties
On June 28, 2013 parts of New York State experienced severe flooding caused by several days of torrential
rains and thunderstorms. In the early afternoon hours the Ontario County Emergency Management Office
received a request from the New York State Office of Emergency Management requesting Storm Emergency
Fire Units (SEFU) to respond to a staging area in Herkimer County. SEFU units from Clifton Springs,
Cheshire, Naples, Port Gibson, and Oaks Corners responded. The SEFU units were deployed for 72 hours
and responded to many calls for flooding.
