Minor Injuries in N.Y.S. Thruway Rollover.
On June 16, 2009 at 0804 hours, the Oaks Corners Fire Department, Phelps Ambulance, and Lyons
Ambulance ALS were dispatched to the westbound exit ramp at New York State Thruway Exit-42 for a reported
garbage truck rolled over, with unknown injuries. Phelps Fire Department Chief John Dole was the first unit to
arrive on scene. He reported that the patient had self-extricated the vehicle and that the injuries were minor. He
also reported that hydraulic oil was leaking from the vehicle.

The Oaks Corners FD assignment consisted of Engine 3211, Rescue 3271, and a crew of 8 firefighters under
the direction of Asst. Chief Maney. Units on scene found a tractor-trailer hauling trash that had rolled over.
Trash that had been thrown from the vehicle blocked parts of both the westbound on-ramps & off-ramps. The
truck had a ruptured hydraulic fluid tank and was leaking both hydraulic oil and engine oil. Asst. Chief Maney
declared the incident as a "level 0 Haz-Mat" incident and requested Special Operations Unit 3262 to the scene
with additional absorbent materials. Firefighters contained the spill with 10 bags of granular absorbent, and
turned the scene over to New York State Thruway officials and the New York State Police.
