Phelps House Destroyed by Fire
On Tuesday 04/29/14 at 0735 hours, the Phelps Fire Department along with automatic mutual aid from the
Oaks Corners Fire Department, were dispatched to a reported house fire at 14 Walnut Street in the Village of
Phelps. Initial reports indicated the living room and hallway were on fire. Phelps Fire Chief Ron Nieskes arrived
on scene, assumed command, and reported a working house fire with wires down. Chief Nieskes requested an
Engine & Ladder from the Clifton Springs Fire Department to the scene. Phelps Ambulance responded to the
scene and transported one resident with burns. The fire was declared under control around an hour after
dispatch. The Marbletown, Geneva, & Port Gibson Fire Departments provided stand-by coverage for
departments on scene.

The Oaks Corners Fire Department responded with Engine 3211, Pumper/Tanker 3231, Heavy Rescue 3271,
Rescue 3261, the Fire Police, and the Auxiliary. Total fire & EMS crew of 19 under the direction of Chief Brian
Maney.
