Patient Trapped in Thruway Crash.
On Sunday 03/30/08 at 4:53pm, the Oaks Corners Fire Department, Phelps Ambulance, and Ontario County
Advanced Life Support were dispatched to 327.1 eastbound on the New York State Thruway for a reported motor
vehicle accident with a car that went under a guard rail. The initial caller did not know if there were any injuries.
About 30 seconds later, the Seneca County 911 Center dispatched the Magee Fire Department and North Seneca
Ambulance to the area of 326 eastbound for a reported motor vehicle accident with multiple injuries. It was later
determined that the two accidents were one in the same. Additional callers were reporting people trapped in the
vehicle.

The Oaks Corners Fire Department responded with Engine 3211 and Rescue 3271 with a crew of 11 firefighters
under the direction of Chief Reifsteck. The first arriving units on scene found a car wedged under the guard rail with
a passenger trapped in the front passenger seat. Due to the type of entrapment, Assistant Chief Maney took over
as Incident Commander and Chief Reifsteck took over as the Extrication Group Commander. Oaks Corners
firefighters used the Hurst spreaders & cutters to remove the roof and open doors on the vehicle. The patient was
freed after 30 minutes of extrication. All patients were transported to the hospital by Phelps Ambulance. North
Seneca Ambulance provided BLS & ALS ambulances to assist Phelps. The Magee Fire Department continued to the
scene and was released on arrival. The North Side Fire Department provided stand-by coverage for Oaks Corners
at Exit 42.
